Measures energy consumption, demand voltage, current and power factor. It is designed for three-phase systems in small to medium commercial, institutional and industrial environments. It is suitable for any three-phase system up to 600 V/1200 A maximum and serves 400 to 1200 A. It offers two data communication options between the MTU and the ECC: PLC or Ethernet.

The MTU is typically located at the main electrical panel and transmits the information collected on the existing electrical wiring of the building, using power line carrier (PLC) communications to an ECC that receives and interprets the data. Multiple MTUs can be used to provide individual panel or load measurements. For solar, wind or other power generation systems, TED will provide the user with consumption, production and net usage.

General information on MTUs

  • "MTU" stands for "Measurement Transmission Unit"
  • An installed MTU (in a home) will typically have 2 CTs (current transformers) - more CTs in 3-phase systems
  • A TED system requires at least one MTU to operate
  • Accurate to ±1%
  • Samples energy data at a rate of 8000 times per second, averages and transmits this data every second to the Energy Control Center (ECC)
  • It will display one measurement every second, which is the combined measurement of the 2 CTs (usually connected to the main circuits)
  • If a Spyder is connected to the MTU, the Spyder measurements will be displayed as independent data
  • Data displayed includes voltage, power factor, kW

Compatible with the following "TED 1.0" systems:

  • TED PRO 400 Commercial Three-Phase Energy Monitoring System, 400 A
  • TED PRO 800 Commercial Three-Phase Energy Monitoring System, 800 A
